Second Annual Golden Rule Project

At Fun Warehouse, kindness isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we choose to lead with. The Golden Rule, treat others the way you want to be treated, is a simple idea with powerful impact, and it continues to guide how we show up for our community. After the overwhelming response and meaningful stories shared during last year’s initiative, we are proud to launch the Second Annual Golden Rule Project—a community-driven effort rooted in gratitude, compassion, and recognition.

Once again, this project shines a spotlight on those who quietly give so much of themselves every single day: teachers. These dedicated individuals do far more than teach lessons—they shape futures, encourage confidence, and create safe, inspiring spaces for our children to grow. From purchasing classroom supplies out of pocket to showing up early and staying late, teachers consistently go above and beyond without expecting recognition. The Golden Rule Project exists to change that—to say thank you in a way that truly reflects the impact they make.

But First, What is the Golden Rule?

The Golden Rule is a universal principle found in cultures, religions, and philosophies across the world. It’s simple yet profound: “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” This timeless idea serves as a moral compass, encouraging kindness, empathy, and respect in our interactions with others.

The Golden Rule isn’t just about words—it’s about action. It’s a call to consider how our choices impact those around us and to lead with fairness and understanding. By following this principle, we create stronger connections, build trust, and foster communities where everyone feels valued.

These principles remind us that the Golden Rule isn’t just a guideline for treating others—it’s a way to create a more compassionate, understanding, and united world. Whether through small acts of kindness or life-changing gestures, living by the Golden Rule has the power to transform lives and strengthen communities.

By embracing these principles, we can all take steps toward making the world a better place—one thoughtful action at a time.

Crystal Reissman

St. James Intermediate School

My story is rooted in heart, hustle, and a deep belief that every child can succeed. As a 6th-grade special education ELA teacher, I work with students to help them build confidence and find success through engaging, supportive instruction. I’ve made an impact by creating a classroom where students feel safe, celebrated, and capable, while also supporting families and sharing strategies with others. I lead beyond my classroom as a Student Council advisor and Girl Scout leader, creating opportunities for students to serve others, build leadership skills, and connect with their community. I spread positive morale throughout the school by uplifting staff and students, celebrating successes, and creating a culture of encouragement and positivity. I go above and beyond by giving my time, energy, and creativity to ensure every student, and those around me, feel supported and successful.

Danielle McColl

St. James Intermediate School

I am a 6th grade ELA teacher with 17 years of experience and a passion for making learning meaningful, engaging, and fun. I thrive on the curiosity and energy my students bring each day and love helping them build confidence as readers, writers, and thinkers. I strive to create a classroom where students feel supported, challenged, and excited to learn, where they can take risks, think deeply, and grow into confident, capable learners. For me, teaching is not just about academics, but about building relationships and inspiring a lifelong love of learning. I want my students to leave my classroom not just smarter, but braver, kinder, and believing in themselves.

Kathryne Wilder

St. James Elementary School

My name is Kathryne Wilder and I have been a teacher for Horry County Schools for the past 8 years. I started my education journey teaching my wonderful 5th graders in Myrtle Beach, Go Seahawks! I transitioned to an ESOL role teaching Kindergarten through 4th grade at St. James Elementary. This role has given me many opportunities and allowed me to further my education through literacy, but I also gained a community. This community has “filled my cup” in so many ways. I am honored to be able to host multicultural events and gift a new book to my students every holiday season. My heart lives with all my students and their families-past and present. I am also lucky enough to be part of my school’s hospitality team and lead our Dance Club students in events throughout the school year. I am so proud to be able to follow my passion through teaching and hope to continue giving back in anyway I can.

Rebecca Myers

Forestbrook Middle School

My name is Rebecca Myers, and I am an eighth-grade English Language Arts teacher at Forestbrook Middle School with 17 years in education. Teaching is more than my profession; it is truly my purpose. I became an educator to make sure every student feels seen, valued, and believed in, even on the days they may not believe in themselves. I am passionate about helping my students discover their strengths, build confidence, and find the courage to persevere through life’s challenges. I also find joy in giving back to the community I grew up in as Horry County Schools has shaped me not only as a student but as an individual. There truly is no place like home. The most meaningful moments for me as an educator are not just academic successes, but the quiet ones such as when a student gains confidence, finds their voice, or realizes their own potential. This nomination means so much to me because it reflects the heart I pour into my classroom each day and the hope that I am making a lasting difference in the lives of my students.

Sarah Bell

Academy for the Arts, Science & Technology

Sarah Bell is an English teacher who believes that great stories—and great classrooms—have the power to change lives.  A native of Myrtle Beach and graduate of the Honors College at the University of South Carolina, Sarah earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from Coastal Carolina University and a STEAM certification from Clemson University. Coming from a family of teachers, education has always been close to her heart, and she brings that passion into her classroom every day. Sarah loves helping students discover that English class is about more than just books—it’s about perspective, creativity, and confidence. Whether leading discussions, designing projects, or celebrating small wins, she works to create a space where students feel seen, heard, and excited to learn. Outside of school, Sarah is a proud mom to her two young children, Grace and Henry, who keep her busy and buried in Play-Doh. She believes the best classrooms are built on strong relationships, curiosity, and a little bit of fun along the way. Being named a Top Five Finalist for Fun Warehouse’s Second Annual Golden Rule Project is an exciting and meaningful honor for her.

Shayna Scheele

St. James Middle School

My name is Shayna Scheehle, and I’m an 8th grade English Language Arts teacher at St. James Middle School. This is my 13th year teaching with these past 3 years being at SJM. I have taught anywhere from 3rd to 10th grade in my career as an educator. I currently teach 8th grade Honors, General, and Co-Teach ELA at the middle school. Being that I have the privilege of working with all types of student learners, I love helping my students reach their goals in reading and watching them grow, not only as readers and writers, but as people. I keep the whole child in mind when I am working on curriculum, instruction, and teaching. This past summer, I worked on the HCS curriculum team to help develop the 8th grade ELA curriculum that I am teaching. My Masters degree is in Divergent Learning, so I love getting to know my students on a personal level. Through relationship building, I am then able to tailor my lessons to meet the needs of the learners as individuals with varying learning styles. I am recently engaged to Cafeteria Worker and Assistant B-Team Football Coach, Alex Gergits. I love getting to see my students as athletes, too. Outside of the classroom, I go to every football game to cheer on my students and support them outside of the classroom. I try to attend as many events as possible, including theatre, band, orchestra, and other extracurricular and sporting events of my students to show them that I support them outside of my four walled classroom. In addition to teaching, I have been in charge of the Multicultural Fair and committee lead at SJM for the past two years; I encourage celebrating diversity and cultural differences, especially as a devout traveler. It has been a pleasure to be nominated, and I am thankful to be able to do what I do on a daily basis.
