Fun Warehouse Goes Orange

Fun Warehouse goes orange for the month of April to help support the ASPCA in the fight to prevent Animal Cruelty.

To help on a local level, we have adopted our local animal shelter, St Francis Animal Center. We will be a dropoff location for the shelter for the entire month of April. Donate all the food and supplies you can right here at the FW.

How To Help Build Independence With Your Tween

We understand tweens. That is one of the main reasons the Mark’s Family  created the Fun Warehouse and Paradise Golf Adventure

We wanted to create a safe place where kids could come have fun.”  There are not enough places in our local area that offer what we strive to do.” -Tim Marks

There are many things to focus on during the tween years but when it comes to their social life, we gotcha covered!

This is a perfect time to give your tween a little independence by letting them learn to navigate the waters without you! We come alongside you by staffing police officers, skilled management and caring staff to make this a fun and safe place for your kids.

You definitely want to be involved in your tween’s social life, because knowing their friends can enable you to guide them away from negative influences and toward positive ones. But be careful about being a “helicopter mom” who gets too involved in the social drama of middle school. Don’t get us wrong, we understand that middle school is super tough: kids hurt one another’s feelings, everyone is insecure, etc. But by being the voice in your child’s life that says, “Take a deep breath, this too shall pass,” rather than, “I can’t believe she said that and here’s what I want you to go back and say to her,” can make her more emotionally mature and independent sooner. Give her good advice about how to handle situations, but let her do all the talking.

Friday and Saturday night at the Fun Warehouse is the perfect place to ease into this new independent social situation.

Do you take care of your family? Goes without saying. Do you take care of your home? Of course. Do you take care of your heart? Probably not.

It may not be at the top of most women’s to-do lists, but caring for your heart through a healthy diet and regular physical activity is the secret weapon to preventing heart disease. While many may assume that popping a few pills that your healthcare provider prescribed is enough to quell symptoms or prevent a heart attack, the real preventative power lies with real changes to your lifestyle – which can reduce the risk for heart disease by as much as 80 percent.

Did you know that more than 2,200 Americans die of heart disease every single day? That’s one death every 39 seconds. And on average, someone in the United States suffers a stroke every 40 seconds, while a stroke-related death occurs about every four minutes.

Do you have a family member or a friend who has been affected by this illness? For many of us this topic hits close to home.

Heart disease does not spare the young. It does not discriminate based on age, and in combination with lifestyle, overall health and whether or not it runs in your family, these factors can work together to raise your risk. While you can’t change things like age and family history, the good news is that even modest changes to your diet and lifestyle can improve your heart health and lower your risk by as much as 80 percent.

Such an aggressive disease requires an equally aggressive response. That’s why The American Heart Association (AHA) has spent more than $3.3 billion on research, ever increasing our knowledge and understanding about heart disease and stroke – also making AHA the largest funder of heart disease research, second only to the U.S. government.

Their mission can be summed up in one challenging 10-year goal: To improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent by 2020.

Fun Warehouse wants to help save and improve their lives with research, education and emergency care and we need your help to do it! The strength of mothers, father, sisters, brothers, daughters and friends, fighting side by side is more powerful than any killer. It’s time to shout louder, stand stronger and demand change. So, what do you say? Are you ready to jump in and join the fight? We hope so. Because together, we can put an end to heart disease.

Roll Into 2015 Healthy and Happy!

According to the American Heart Association, more than 17%, or about 12 million children in the US are overweight. An additional 12 million children are at risk of becoming overweight. While children are eating more and weighing more, they are exercising less.

During the winter months, physical activity is further restricted by cold weather, forcing kids to engage in more dormant activities such as watching television, playing video games or going to the movies. American Heart Association statistics report that almost 1 in 4 children do not participate in any free-time physical activity, and a typical American youth spends 4 to 5 hours a day watching TV, using the computer or playing video games.

In a drastic effort to change these statistics, we are encouraging parents and families to make significant lifestyle changes to promote a healthy lifestyle. It’s not easy for kids to say no to fast food and unhealthy snacks, nor is it easy to get them to participate in heart stimulating activities when they’re accustomed to sitting in front of the television. Hence, when making lifestyle changes the results are better if everyone in the family participates.

The Fun Warehouse is offering families an affordable solution this New Year to get moving and have fun. Introducing the SK8 2 FIT program. Roller skating is an excellent indoor activity that is equal to jogging in terms of calories burned and muscles used. Not only is roller skating safe and great exercise for all ages, it’s also great fun for the entire family. So much fun, you won’t even know your exercising. That is the point! This is the first fitness program designed for families. Families that play together, stay together! The Fun Warehouse offers clean fun and affordable family entertainment while providing a great workout at the same time.

“Skating yourself fit has many weight loss benefits and might be one of the best things you can do for your health and your heart. Roller skating can reduce your risk of chronic disease, improve your balance and coordination, help you lose or maintain your weight, improve your sleep patterns and build your confidence. Roller skating is equivalent to jogging in terms of health benefits, calorie burning, reduction of body fat and leg strength development.

  • Just one hour of moderate roller skating (6 mph) burns 330 calories for a 143-pound person. If that same person skates vigorously (10 mph), he or she will burn up to 590 calories an hour!
  • According to a study at the University of Massachusetts, in-line skating causes less than 50 percent of the impact shock to joint compared to running.
  • Roller skating assists in building strength, especially in the muscles of the low body. The thigh, hip, butt and leg muscles work together during skating to direct you forward and maintain balance. Stronger muscles and better coordination work together to prevent injuries and keep you active and limber while you age. Improves Balance, Core Strength, Works the Calf And Thigh Muscles
  • Apart from losing weight, you will find that the activity provides a great way to help your body build definition or be toned. Skating regularly may provide a good workout on different parts of your body. Your arms, legs and back will be toned and gain more strength, especially because the activity requires that you balance yourself and employ your whole body in order to move.

Do something different this New Year. Skate your way fit and roll into 2015 healthier and happier!
